I usually like to know as little about a book as possible before I start reading. Sometimes it backfires, like with "Unaccustomed Earth" by Jhumpa Lahiri. Each chapter introduced new chacaters and storylines and I kept expecting that the characters and their stories would converge at some point.
Once I realized it was a collection of short stories (about a third of the way through), it made more sense!
The 7 or 8 stories involved well-educated Bengali-Americans 'between' cultures, not comfortable in Indian culture, not comfortable in American culture. The writing and stories were beautiful, although I felt a little repetetive.
