'Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time' by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin is an inspirational story. Mortenson fails in his attempt to climb K2 in Pakistan, and is taken in by a Pakistani village where he recuperates. he promises to return to build a school. This starts a lifelong journey in which he founds Central Asia Institute and spends his life traveling between the States (where he raises money and starts a family) and Pakistan (where he builds schools).
The story is truly inspirational. Mortenson shows how one man can make such a difference in the lives of others.
On the other hand, the story is poorly told. Mortenson is a 'doer' and admits he is not good at orderly storytelling. I felt as though someone were excitedly telling me a story - forgetting details, going off on tangents, telling the story out of order.
I probably enjoyed the article I'd read about his story that inspired me to pick up this book more than the book itself.
