Acceptance - the book

I'm surprised there aren't more novels about getting into college. For at least a certain percentage of the US population, the college application process.

'Acceptance' by Susan Coll focuses on four main characters - three classmates from one suburban high school, and an admissions dean at a small liberal arts school.
  • AP Harry is a smart, focused student, whose sole goal is to get into Harvard.
  • Maya is a star athlete but a mediocre student in a family whose three older children were naturally gifted.
  • Taylor is a troubled student, whose high scores on standardized tests and natural writing ability are counteracted by poor grades and disinterest in the college application process.
  • Olivia is acting admissions dean at a small liberal arts school who struggles to come to terms with accepting 'legacy' and 'big donor' children, while dealing with a lawsuit against the school and a tangled and unnecessary affair.
I didn't find senior year that difficult. I didn't really stress out until after I'd gotten acceptances, and was trying to figure out where to accept. And, that was years ago, so it wasn't at the front of my mind until I read this book.

But, it was well written, and funny, and I think this would be an interesting book for someone currently going through the experience - or maybe a junior in high school.
