Belong to Me - the book

'Belong to Me', by Marisa de los Santos isn't exactly a sequel, but does continue the story of characters introduced in one of de los Santos' earlier novels, 'Love Walked In', which I have not read. But, it worked well as a stand-alone novel.

Now that I'm done with the book, I can think of many reasons to dislike it. The characters are caricatures. The many plot lines feel contrived.

And yet, as I was reading the novel, I didn't want to put it down. It was one of those books where I stay up late to finish a few extra chapters before bed, and get a few more chapters in during breakfast instead of reading the newspaper.

And...I cried. I can't remember the last time I cried while reading a book, and yet, as one of the plot lines came to its conclusion, I was full-on crying. So, yes, I guess I did enjoy it :)
